TRUCK ACCESS
Highway Access
At Maryland's Port of Baltimore, our highway network keeps cargo moving miles ahead of the competition. One-third of the nation's population and manufacturing base can be reached within an overnight truck drive, and we make it easy to get there.
Miles Ahead of the Competition
With more than 22,000 miles (35,398 km) of public roads, including six interstates, it's easy to see why the Port's highway network is second to none.
All of Baltimore's general cargo terminals are within an easy five-minute ride of I-95 — the East Coast's "Main Street." Easily accessible in either direction on I-95, the Baltimore Beltway (I-695) connects with major interstates heading north, south and west.
Over the Road
Numerous trucking companies, capable of transporting any type of cargo, connect the Port's piers with any spot in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The Maryland Port Administration maintains an excellent relationship with the State Highway Administration and can assist shippers, importers and trucking companies in obtaining any necessary permits required to carry cargo over state roads.
In 2009, the Maryland Port Administration, State Highway Administration and the City of Baltimore streamlined the permitting process by introducing a joint permit. This permit is for the movement of certain dimensional loads moving to and from Dundalk Marine Terminal.
