In 1956, the Maryland General Assembly passed a bill that established the Maryland Port Authority. In 1972, the Maryland Port Authority became the Maryland Port Administration and became one of five modals within the Maryland Department of Transportation. The Maryland Port Administration oversees the operations and management of the State's public marine terminals.
